Florence became involved with the Miami Valley Down Syndrome association in 2011 when she attended her first Buddy Walk with her 2 daughters. She then joined MVDSA and appreciated the sense of community the organization provided. With her children, teenagers, and the older one with Down syndrome soon aging out of the school system, Florence joined the board in 2024. Florence earned her bachelor's in economics from the University of Illinois, her Master's degree in international economics from Johns Hopkins University, and her master's in public health from Wright State University, where she is currently employed as Adjunct Faculty.
